It seems that we have been averaging 2 to 3 inches of rain every weekend and that or more weekdays atop of the constant lightning storms. Was hoping for a clear night. We have a meteor shower coming tonight the 11TH over the Tug Hill. The Northern Chapter along with the other area Clubs have seen a drastic Drop in Membership. I would of thought with all the trails be closed by the DEC that we would have had droves of riders coming together. It has just been the opposite. Normal members have given up or at least table much of anything in participation and all have focused on the reality of the economy and hard times ahead. Knowing some of my neighbors and co-workers I don’t know how they will be able to make it thru the winter heating season. There is hope if you believe in signs from nature. Several woolly caterpillars have been seen and have little to no dark spots, which predict a very mild winter. Probably more rain you Think! The Jefferson County Legislators on August 5TH was presented a ATV Trail Plan and requested to open a limited amount of County roads which they supported 100%. Now they must go back to the towns and request the remainder of the Town Roads opened. Then after signage and final approval we will hopefully have our first County ATV Trail System in place. There are allot of Land Owners have been waiting for before they open there private trails to expand the existing system. That is if the challenge, which is already being put together to stop it all from ever happening. For those that traveled thru the State during the ATV Draft Hearings, what the State called then as ATV Trails, just short of being Black Top roads & 20 foot wide. Now that the seasonal roads meet what they basically wanted they change agin and are trying to push for strictly woodland and private section as what needs to exist between every opened road section. So it all comes down to definition and interpretation. So God knows how long that will take. Until it comes in place we still have been having many benefit ride’s that support some really good causes. So I ask everyone to please help by your support and participation. Thunder is rocking the house so need to wrap this up for the month and wish you all the best. Don’t despair we are coming hopefully to the end of our long journey and things will be looking better for our sport over the next year. Until we pass again on the Trails, Ride Safe. In a July 28 updated email to the ATV community, the Office of the Chief of the Forest Service stated they have asked all media outlets to discontinue the airing of the ad. This cessation of the ad came as a result of an effort by many ATV and motorized access stakeholders to alert the agencies that the ad was offensive and was sending the wrong message to the recreating public. This action was prompted by requests from many responsible motorized recreation interests to pull or modify the ad to make the message more relevant and accurate. Don Amador, Western Representative for the BlueRibbon Coalition, states, "I honestly believe the agencies had intended to create a positive message regarding safe use of OHVs on public lands. However, the PSA incorrectly conveyed to the ATV rider that the best way for them to prevent wildfires was to stay at home. Instead, the ad should have encouraged the use of USDA Forest Service approved spark arrestors and limiting travel to approved routes and areas." "BRC thanks the agencies for listening to our collective concerns about this ad and for taking the responsible course of action by canceling the campaign. It is our hope the Ad Council and Forest Service consult with their trail recreation experts and the OHV community before launching another motorized recreation ad," Amador concludes. # # # The BlueRibbon Coalition is a national recreation group that champions responsible use of public and private lands, and encourages individual environmental stewardship. It represents over 10,000 individual members and 1,200 organization and business members, for a combined total of over 600,000 recreationists nationwide. 1-800- 258-3742. http:// www.sharetrails.org AD COUNCIL AND FOREST SERVICE PULL ILL ADVISED SMOKEY BEAR ATV PSA For Sale Baja 90 comes with complete parts machine, $550.00 or BO. The Intake Flame is Z1R’s best dirt riding helmet. Performance certified by the Snell Foundation, this outstanding head gear is constructed of fiberglass with aramid fiber and Dyneema reinforcement for superior strength and light weight. Built on Z1R’s North American Round / Oval head form with a dual-density foam liner, the Intake Flame is a very comfortable helmet to wear. The Cool-Max® interior wicks moisture away to keep the wearer cooler and drier, and is fully removable and washable. Cheek pads are also removable and interchangeable for size. Multiple vents move air through the helmet, and the mesh foam mouthpiece prevents roost from entering though the chin bar vent. The visor is adjustable and rubberized goggle grabbers hold eye wear in place. D-ring closure on the adjustable chin strap completes the specifications. This great helmet is available in numerous color choices to match or compliment any quad or dirt bike. Graphics models with a black base have a choice of red, blue, green, gold, alloy silver, or black chrome accents.
