The Town of Greenfield town board has denied the posting of Plank Road for ATV travel. They used the old bull story. The town doesn’t want to open themselves up to the liability issue in case someone has an accident on the road. Plus there is a meager subdivision on the table for the property that boarders the north side of that portion of Plank Road, and the people that buy these lots may not want ATVs running along their property and drive way. You’ve got to love this town. I've been in touch with Fynch and we are talking about anything that we can do to solve the parking issue. We have two things that we are looking into; one might be parking over on Ormsbee Road and entering the land from there. The other might be once you cross the steel deck bridge. They are working on the road to make it better because of the windmill thing that is in the works up there right now, and they have to have a better road for the trucks and trailer to get up there with the weather station tower that will be going up soon once the new road is done. You should be able to drive up the land but they want to take and clean up the loading area on Trail 8 just in from Plank Road on the left, and go up the little hill to the clearing which is on part of our lease. More to come on this as I get it. Work has started northwest of our meeting area for a weather tower, so when up there riding you will see a cable across our trail that heads out of the meeting area in the northwestern direction. This cable has signs on it that say no ATVs. We have to honor this sign for now and once the work is done and the equipment is out of there, this will reopen to us, so please, I know everyone wants to see what they are doing up there, but stay out for now. Next meeting is January 25, 2007. We will be talking about events for the year. I want to get them set up so we can get started on the advertising. I would like to get the advertisements for this year out by March. I checked into advertising in the newspaper and the Outdoor Sportsmen paper, and after getting over the shock of the fees to advertise in these papers or magazines, I see that this way of trying to get more membership is out since the cost is way out of reach for the club at this time. The ads started at $125.00 a week up to $1700.00 and some were even more than that! I'm still looking for ideas on this. At tonight’s meeting (11/30/2006) the members talked about having every member try to invite at least one friend or someone that they know that rides or hunts and try to get them to join up. The last day for hunting season was December 3, 2006, so the land is back open for riding! Go out and enjoy your riding area and remember your ideas and opinions are always welcome, so please write them down and send them in or bring them to a meeting. NOTE: I would like to hear from any one that ordered a NCATVA jacket from Adirondack Embroidery and did not receive it. North Country ATV Association NYTRO of Eastern NY A division of NYTRO Inc. On the County and Region scene, the newly Organized Power Sports Dealers Organization is growing and the restructuring of NYSORVA and the Region 6 groups combined with the rest of the state to include NYTRO. There is a really good possibility we may have insurance same as Trail Pass to protect the Landowners and Clubs next year for a modest amount. Our County Politics are back stepping on the legislation that is needed to open the county properties and adjoining roads. We are seeing the environmental studies stalling for the winter so the required SEQR can not move forward. There is some light at the end of the tunnel but not much to keep you warm as winter approaches. I have purchased a snowmobile and will continue to work with the Winno Forest Group thru the Winter and start the strategy plans for the Pilot Multi Use Trail that will be there; this in turn will hopefully show the associated state and county officials that with a trail plan and up keep, you can have a nice trail system. Volume 14, Issue 11 Page 8 Miles Mountain Ride Review we had gotten on Thursday, but that made it more challenging and interesting. We were staying together pretty well until we crossed the road. I was near the back of the group and we got hung up in a muddy section. There were some of us that only had two-wheel drive machines and it was a little more challenging to get through some sections. Fortunately Tammy and Pam had walkie-talkies and were in contact with each other. The group in front came upon a water hole that they were getting stuck in as well. The tail group got moving and when I came over the hill we saw Steve Smith and his KFX700 buried in the water. Dan pulled up with his Sportsman and used the belly-flop connect method. He was out pretty quickly and we were on our way. Of course, we didn’t' get much further when Dan got stuck and Steve got stuck behind him. Dan Jr. pulled out Dan and then Dan pulled out Steve again. The rest of us went around the deep area and then we continued on our way. There was so much water in some spots that you could only tell the trail location by the fact that there wasn't any grass standing in the water. This made it very interesting to keep moving and not knowing what was in the trail. We completed the trail and got back to the parking area about 4:00 PM. Some people loaded up and headed out. The rest of us went to the Mud Pit. And it was MUDDY! Pam took her Arctic Cat through the mud several times. We thought that we would have to pull her out on her last run, but she finally got out. Steve Smith tried a run with his KFX700 and got about 25 feet before stopping! Rick pulled Steve out with his Honda. Walt was starving, so we loaded up and decided to head down to Willie's for some burgers. The food was good and the prices were extremely reasonable. Everyone had a great time. And we gained some new club members as well. Check out more pictures at http://www.nytrostier.org. I sure hope that the trails at Miles Mountain stay available to us for next year. See you out on the trails. Let's Ride! By Gary Burns, STNY President On Saturday, November 18th, I and fourteen others went to a ride in Elkland, PA at Miles Mountain. We arrived at around 10:00 am. The trails were closed, but we had made arrangements to ride for the day. We had the trails all to ourselves! We signed the release forms and paid the riding fee. We unloaded the quads and lined them up for a pre-ride photo. The trail coordinator (Tim Swan) was going to ride a little with us. He asked if we wanted to take a trip around the track (they have a motocross track at Miles Mountain as well). We headed to the track for a lap around before some motorcycles started practicing. The track has some awesome jumps for dirt bikes, but you need to be careful on a quad not to go too fast over them. Jamie went a little fast over one and almost went over the handlebars of her quad! Fortunately, she held on and completed the ride around the track. After everyone completed the ride around the track we headed out onto the trails. The trails are awesome to ride. It was a little muddy due to all the rain that Volume 14, Issue 11 Page 10 Sponsors Volume 14, Issue 11 Page 11 Sponsors Volume 14, Issue 11 Page 12 Sponsors $20.00 Per Day Volume 14, Issue 11 Page 13 Sponsors Volume 14, Issue 11 Page 14 Dealer Discount List Albany Honda 390 New Karner Road Albany, NY 12205 518-452-1003 Action Cycle 1889 Union Road West Seneca, NY 14224 716-675-6163 All Seasons Equipment Inc. 60 Freeman’s Bridge Rd Scotia, NY 12302 518-372-5611 Appolson's Polaris 5820 Southwestern Blvd. Hamburg, NY 14075 716-649-1090 Arkport Cycles 1 Main Street Arkport, NY 14807 607-295-7426 Ballantyne RV/Marine 7447 Rt. 96 Victor, NY 14564 585-924-9161 Bennett Motor Sales 6453 St Hwy. 28 Flycreek, NY 13337 607-547-9332 Binghamton Honda 120 East Arterial Highway Binghamton 13901 607-722-7433 Bob’s Cycle Shop, Inc. 607 N.
